KeyNIE digital lock use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology to connect with smartphone and gain controls remotely for the users. You just need to connect the smartphone with the Bluetooth enable digital lock and set it up. Here is how you set up KeyNIE once it’s delivered to you.
Each time you unlock KeyNIE, you can see its battery status. This will allow you to keep a track of the battery and allow you to charge the battery before it dies down. You can remove the panel at the bottom of the lock in padlock and replace the old batteries with the new ones. Where as you get an option to jump start the lock with external power source in Keynie door lock.
The KeyNIE padlock uses a KeyNIE standard AA LS14250 batteries.
The KeyNIE padlock uses a standard 1.5V AA Alkaline batteries (4 pcs).
KeyNIE uses Bluetooth 4.0 which contains a high level of security for safe transactions. It uses 128-bit AES CCM Encryption Algorithm that ensures highly safe and secure transmission of data. Physically, its shackle is made of hardened boron and steel that makes it weather resistant and reliable.
The KeyNIE package includes one lock hardware and an user manual to understand how the lock works. Once you download the KeyNIE mobile app and set up your phone to work with the lock, additional eKeys will automatically be added to your KeyNIE account. An eKey is an electronic key that can be sent to friends and family with KeyNIE-compatible smartphones.

KeyNIE is compatible with iOS devices that have Bluetooth 4.0 LE hardware and running iOS 7.0 or later (iPhone 4S or newer, iPod Touch 5G or newer, iPad 3G or newer, iPad minis).
KeyNIE is also compatible with Android devices that have Bluetooth 4.0 hardware and running Android operating system KitKat (4.4) or later (including Samsung Galaxy S4 or newer, HTC One or newer, and several more).
For KeyNIE to work, the phone on which the KeyNIE app is installed should be within the Bluetooth range of the KeyNIE, theoretically 33 feet (10 meters).
After you launch and sign in to the KeyNIE mobile app for the first time, it will continue to run in the background of your phone. It will switch on the bluetooth of your device and connect with the lock once you press the button on your padlock. You can then use the big blue unlock button on your screen to unlock.
What is an eKey?
An eKey is an encrypted electronic key that can be sent to friends and family with KeyNIE-compatible smartphones. It works just like your existing mechanical key but resides on your Smartphone.
Each eKey is unique and assigned specifically to a KeyNIE user. In order to guarantee the best security, sharing of eKeys is not available at this time.
What are the different eKey types?
Owner eKey: When you set up your phone to work with the lock your phone will automatically receive the only owner eKey.
Admin eKey: have full access to the lock, the lock's history, and its notifications in addition to being able to send, edit, or delete eKeys with the exception of the Owner.
Anytime eKey: are able to lock or unlock the lock.

01. Once you have downloaded the KeyNIE App, you will have to add your lock to the App.
02. Go to the option- 'Add Lock' in the App.
03. This will take you to 2 options- 'Scan' and 'Bluetooth'.
'Scan' option will take to a screen wherein you will have to scan that QR code again This will add a new lock to your application wherein you will have to name the lock thereafter.
The 'Bluetooth' option will require the Bluetooth in your Smart phone to be 'ON' and then when you press the button on your lock, your lock will get identified and it connects and gets added to your system.

After setting up the lock you will see the "Unlock" button on your screen with other options.
The 'Button' option simply involves you pressing the button on the lock and tapping on the 'Unlock' button in your phone, which will open the lock with the help of Bluetooth in your smart phone.
The user will be supposed to download the keyNIE application from the link provided signup with the number specified and they can see the key in their application as well.
This will take you to a records screen that enables you to monitor all the lock/unlock activities on the lock along with the time of the activity and user who did it.
You get to share the eKey with friends and family.
Go to the “Send eKey” section after selecting the lock you want to share. Add the contact you want to share the eKey with directly from your phone book. Give them a name and press “ Send eKey”. The user will receive the SMS to download Keynie app and use the eKey to unlock the Keynie lock.
eKeys Management
In the eKeys section of your lock you get to see how many eKeys you have generated and everything related to them.
Keep Records
The Records section allows you to monitor the activities performed on a particular lock. Like which user had unlocked which number of lock and when.
The Settings Menu
You can change the name of your lock, get info about the locks credentials, check the battery status and you also get the option to delete the lock from this section.
